Fidelity Campaign

For those who want to be more involved with Save Darfur and the Fidelity campaign in the Boston area, read below for the details.Starting this Monday, there will be a press conference at 10am near the Park St. T station (Tremont St. and Park St.) to kick off the Fidelity campaign. YOU ARE INVITED! Come join Eric Cohen, Adam Sterling, David Rubenstein, Sen. Augustus, Sen. Chandler and Rev. Gloria White Hammond as they launch the Fidelity media blitz. BE THERE AT 9:30 TO PICK UP YOUR TSHIRT.Immediately after the press conference, The Save Darfur Coalition is launching a media blitz, petition drive, and a leafleting campaign targeting Fidelity for their investments in companies that help fund the genocide in Darfur. This media blitz will include national and local television ads, plus a major ad campaign in the Park Street T-Station.Volunteers are needed during the three-week period of May 7th-26th who can help us pass out information about the link between Fidelity and the genocide. To volunteer, send an email
and please include your name, phone number and which volunteer shifts you are available. An organizer will get back to you within 48 hours. Please see below for more details and a schedule of volunteer shifts. If you aren't yet sure when you can volunteer, contact us anyway to let us know you are interested. We will place volunteers at T-Stops all over the city with petitions and information to proactively inform citizens what it means to invest in genocide. This campaign is the latest action we are taking targeting Boston-based Fidelity, which, as of December was the largest investor in PetroChina on the NYSE. It's time to ramp up the pressure on Fidelity and demand that they stop investing in companies that help fund the Sudan Government\'s genocide in Darfur. Together, we can make divestment happen!

Battle Of The Bands Cape Cod

Every Stand-person within a six hour drive of the Cape! One of the coolest things about being part of STAND this past year has been the road trips to support the cause whether as close as neighboring Harwich or as far away as New York City. In fact, back in February, a bunch of our kids took a road trip to Newton South to see State Radio play, and help NS raise over $20K to help Darfur. Now's your chance to have an awesome and purposeful road trip. On May 11th, with doors at 6:30 PM and the show starting at 7, we're holding the Darfur Battle of the Bands Cape Cod with overnine high schools participating from Bourne by the bridge to Nauset out on the arm. This show is going to rock; I know because I've seen almost all the bands--they're great. I'd say I can't believehigh school kids have this much musical talent, but I won't because it's just like the amazing talent we've seen all across this country as the youth of the Save Darfur movement--mainly in the formof STAND chapter members--have led the way in Darfur activism. The show is at the Mattacheese Middle School, which is off exit 7 on the Mid-Cape high way. Head south to Higgins Crowell Rd., follow a 1/4 mile to the rotary, where you go right, sticking w/Higgins Crowell. About 1 mile down on the right you will pass an elementary school on your left, then the Mattacheese Middle School driveway will on your left. If you get to the Yarmouth PoliceDepartment, you just missed the driveway.Tickets $10 at the door with proceeds to Doctors Without Borders and other Darfur charities. Also, while you're reading: hats off to Spenser Lawrence who has done an awesome job with this incredibly time-consuming job. You rule Spence--it's been a pleasure getting to know you thisyear. I've got your back bro' Recommendations for life, on me!Jeff HowellDennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. Virginia Tech

Since the massacre at Virginia Tech took place there have been outpourings of sympathy and condolences for the survivors throughout the country, which continues to grieve with them. As students, this tragedy has struck particularly hard. We know that this random attack could have occurred in many places, at any of our schools, and we stand together with our fellow students at Virginia Tech.
As a student organization, created by students and run by students, STAND feels a profound grief for this loss of precious life. Over the past two weeks, as we have learned more about the individual lives and commitments of those who were killed, we were deeply saddened to hear that three of the students served as active members of the Virginia Tech STAND chapter. We mourn for all those killed that day and feel a sense of solidarity with their friends, families and all Virginia Tech students.
We ask that, as members not only of the STAND community but also of the larger student community and the human community that you join us in honoring those who died and supporting the Virginia Tech community as it begins to rebuild.
In peace and solidarity,
Erin Mazursky, Director, Georgetown '07

Coin Drive (Dimes For Darfur)

We are currently having a coin drive in all T.A.'s. Each T.A. has an info packet, a container for change, and a petition to the U.N. Concerning Darfur. Please, everybody, get your T.A.s to know about whats going on in Darfur and donate to the cause. Please get people to read the info packet and sign the petition. If every student in the United States donated just a dime, we could raise 5.4 million.
